Being a generalist isn’t as glamorous as it’s often portrayed. People will tell you that it’s great, that you can do anything, but in reality, it’s hard to answer the question, “So, what are you great at?” because the truth is, you’re good at everything. And while that sounds impressive, it’s a challenge when the world expects specialists with sharp, defined skills.
Being a generalist feels like being a one-man army, capable of handling whatever is thrown your way. But here’s the tough part: who needs a one-man army when the world already has entire forces specialized, organized, and ready to move? It’s like standing at the edge of a battlefield, knowing you’re capable of contributing anywhere, but unsure where you really belong.
